Swann Morton blades are the most commonly used blades because of the high quality.
They are made of first quality carbon steel and meet the highest requirements (according to BS 2982 and BS EN 27740). The scalpel blades are individually wrapped in sterile foil and Gamma sterilized. There are 100 blades in a box. Swann Morton reference number: 0201

What is the Swann Morton Number 10 blade used for?

The Swann Morton Number 10 Blade with its curved cutting edge is one of the more traditional blade shapes and is generally used for making various incision sizes in the skin and muscles. The number 10 blade is often used in more specialized surgeries such as cardiac surgery, uterine incisions for a C-section and for inguinal hernia repair.

Attaching a Swann Morton Scalpel Blade

Use the following procedure to attach a surgical blade:

1. Grasp the blade with, for example, pliers and avoid contact with the cutting edge.
2. Hold the handle in your left hand with the bayonet lock on top.
3. Place the blade halfway over the handle.
4. Slide the blade further until it clicks into place.
5. To improve mounting, you can bend the blade slightly upwards when sliding it onto the handle.
How to safely remove a Swann Morton scalpel blade

Use the following procedure to release a surgical blade:

1. Grasp the blade with tweezers or needle holder at point A.
2. Make sure the cutting edge of the blade is not facing your body.
3. Holding the handle firmly, lift the back of the blade with the pliers or needle holder and slide the handle away.
